The first ever Gas Safety Week was held between September 12th and 18th September 2011. It was launched by the Gas Safe Register in a bid to generate more awareness about the importance of gas and boiler safety in the home.
The Gas Safe Register travelled around the country to raise more awareness of the issue, providing advice at events throughout the week in numerous B&Q and Comet stores across the UK.
Dangers Posed by Gas Appliances
Gas appliances which are badly fitted, or serviced incorrectly, can lead to serious problems including gas leaks, carbon monoxide poisoning, explosions and fires. A regular check by a qualified engineer is all it takes to prevent such problems from occurring, and the aim of Gas Safety Week was to spread this message across the country.
Gas Safety Tips
To help raise awareness of the importance of gas and boiler safety, the Gas Safe Register highlighted a number of gas safety tips for homeowners, including:
* only use Gas Safe registered engineers to check boilers and gas appliances;
* ensure that all appliances are serviced on a regular basis and an annual gas safety check is carried out;
* always check the engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID.
